Enhancing complexion (varnya prabhava) is one of the special properties of ashoka described in the ancient texts of Ayurveda. Ashoka gets this quality from two of its other properties. On the physical level, ashoka is vishasrajit (it removes toxins from the blood). Anything that removes toxins from the blood will naturally help complexion because the health of the skin is directly related to the blood.

Secondly, ashoka helps complexion because its most famous property is to remove grief from the heart. The name, ashoka, in Sanskrit literally means "no grief." "A" means "no" and "shoka" means grief. On a deeper level, "a" in Sanskrit represents consciousness because it is the most fully open sound the mouth can make.

The ashoka tree has a strong connection to consciousness. It is this "a" value of ashoka (its connection to consciousness) which removes grief. When the heart is free of grief, the light of the gem (soul) reflects fully on the face. In this way, ashoka helps to improve complexion from deep within.

Ashoka Herbal Memory Nectar

• Delivers the divine properties of this herb even if the liver or digestive system are toxic (the crude herb would be corrupted in the process).
• Removes grief very quickly (doesn't need to go through the digestive and metabolic systems, which takes time).
• Is suspended in the nectar of sweet squashes to protect the divine intelligence of ashoka.
• Should be added to 1 to 2 liters of cool water and sipped throughout the day.
