Yashtimadhu is the Sanskrit name for licorice, whose somagenic properties have been appreciated by Ayurveda for centuries. Vaidya Mishra uses deglycyrrhized licorice (DGL) instead of crude licorice because the glycyrrhizin in crude licorice causes the body to hold onto sodium and can raise blood pressure. Deglycyrrhized licorice has almost all of the properties of crude licorice, but without causing any blood pressure issues.
This Herbal Memory Nectar is an excellent way to deliver DGL to the system when the liver is full of toxins or the digestive system is weak, as is common in modern culture today. Any herb that is taken orally must pass through the digestive system and be processed in the liver. If there are a lot of toxins there, the beneficial properties of DGL will be corrupted and the herb's effect will be negligible.
This is the main reason that Vaidya Mishra uses alternative delivery systems like his herbal memory nectars and transdermal creams. These formulations do not contain the crude herb, only the sukshma bhag (subtle essence) and prabhavas (special properties) of the herb, which do not need to be processed by the digestive system or liver. Instead the essence of the herb goes directly to the organs and tissues and cellular systems that need its support.
When almost everyone has weakness or toxicity in the digestive system and liver today, this method of using DGL proves to be the most effective.
The Sanskrit text, Bhava Prakash Nighantu, says that yashtimadhu (licorice) gives many benefits to health. It can give freedom from fear (abhyatva), long life to the eyes (chakshushya), strength to the mind, emotions and physical body (bala), good complexion to the skin (varnya), healthy long-lived hair (keshya), and healthy voice (svarna).
Its two most important prabhavas (properties) are somanasya janana (it helps the body to receive more soma so that it can maintain a balanced pH), and visha hara (it helps to bind and neutralize acidic toxins in the body).
Learn five other prabhavas (special qualities) of yashtimadhu (licorice) in Vaidya Mishra's 29 minute audio lecture: Yashtimadhu - Learn About the Somagenic Properties of Licorice and DGL, available for instant download for $0.99. You will learn more detail about the physical properties of this important herb, and you will gain a deeper understanding of how it is able to remove toxins. Also, you will learn why this herb is used as a balancing herb in many of our formulations.
When DGL is taken in the form of this herbal memory nectar, diluted in water, and sipped throughout the day, it helps give deep rehydration, and gently begins to purify the blood by removing any toxins found there. It also works as a medhya herb, helping to coordinate dhi (power of learning), dhriti (power of retention) and smriti (power of recall) to improve mental function.
DGL is an ingredient in many of Vaidya Mishra's herbal formulations. Here is a list of our main DGL products.
