The most powerful way to use DGL (deglycyrrhized licorice) is internally (abhyantar). However, the digestive system and liver must be fairly strong and free of toxins to be able to process the crude herb and convert it into a material that the body can use. If digestion is weak, the body will make ama (partially digested material) of the licorice, and if the liver is full of toxins, the subtle vibration of the licorice will be destroyed by the sheer quantity of toxins in the liver.

But if the body is strong enough, DGL powder taken in herbal tea form is more cooling and is able to bind more toxins and increase reception of soma in the body better than the alternative delivery methods of DGL Herbal Memory Nectar and DGL Transdermal Cream. The physical properties of the herb are avilable when using the physical herb, but they are not present in the transdermal cream or herbal memory nectar.

Bhava Prakash Nighantu lists a number of physical properties of yashtimadhu (licorice).  It has hima veerya (cooling potency). It also has madhu rasa (sweet taste) and madhu vipak (sweet post-digestive effect). It also has the following gunas (physical qualities):  guru (heavy), hima (cold) and susnigdha (good lubricating ability).

All of these physical properties are present in the DGL powder and, if transformed properly by a good working digestive system and liver, are very effective for cooling the body, balancing the pH and binding and removing toxins. Also, the physical molecules of DGL available in this DGL powder are able to bind the physical toxins found in the body.

Add one pinch of DGL to your one or two liters of herbal tea mixuture given to you by your Shaka Vansya Ayurveda practitioner and sip throughout the day.
