Gotu kola (mandukaparni in Sanskrit) is a powerful herb that requires skill to use properly. Gotu kola is the best herb for reversing aging, according to Ayurveda, but it can cause allergic dermatitis in some people if it is not processed correctly, or if it is not used in proper combination with other herbs. For this reason Gotu Kola has been banned in Canada.
Mandukaparni (gotu kola) has a lot of agni (the warming, transforming energy of nature). That is why it can sometimes cause allergic dermatitis. But the chance of getting this reaction can be almost completely eliminated by proper combination and processing.
When done correctly, you get the powerful ayushya (anti-aging), smriti prada (memory enhancing) and rasayana (disease prevention) benefits of gotu kola without the risk of allergic reaction. You also get the collagen synthesis enhancing properties of this powerful herb.
The trick, according to Shaka Vansya Ayurveda is to either use mandukaparni (gotu kola) in combination with other saumya (cooling) herbs, like aindri (bacopa monnieri), or to process it in such a way as to remove the agneya (heating) properties.
This Herbal Memory Nectar formulation processes mandukaparni (gotu kola) in a way that extracts the subtle vibrational essence of the herb while leaving behind the physical, agneya (heating) properties. In addition, this subtle essence (prabhava) is captured in the nectar of sweet squashes, which are full of soma (cooling, nurturing vibration).
The result is a formulation that delivers the benefit of gotu kola without the risk of allergic reaction. In the past three years since Vaidya Mishra first formulated this Gotu Kola Herbal Memory Nectar, not one case has been reported of allergic dermatitis from this product.
In fact, Vaidya Mishra uses gotu kola in many formulations, listed below, with no adverse reactions. This is due to Vaidya's family knowledge of how to process gotu kola in ways that remove or balance the excess agni of the herb.
Of course, it is always good to be safe and test any product containing gotu kola on a small patch of skin the day before starting to use it.
