Red flowered punarnava is described in Bhava Prakash as tikta (bitter), katupaka (pungent post-digestive effect), hima (cooling), laghu (light), grahini (enhancing absorption), sleshma pitta rakta vinashani (removing ama, excess kapha, amavisha, and excess pitta from the blood).
