Sensitive Plant is one of Vaidya Mishra's favorite herbs. According to Ayurveda, it is very helpful for strengthening the nerves, which commonly get damaged due to a high amount of amavisha (reactive toxins) in the body.
Sensitive plant, lajjalu in Sanskrit, is described by the Ayurvedic texts as sheetala (cooling), tikta (bitter), kashaya (astringent) and kaphapittajit (able to reduce kapha and pitta).
Sensitive plant, while helpful to the nerves, is never given as a blanket recommendation. As with any herb, there are many factors to consider.
If nerve damage is due to high amavisha (toxicity) in the body, as is often the case with multiple sclerosis, the amavisha must be slowly reduced before using sensitive plant.
The SVA diet is recommended to begin creating more alkalinity in the body. Binders such as tapioca, barley and okra are recommended to bind the toxins and slide them out of the body. Spices such as coriander are used to bind the toxins in the blood and get them out through the urine.
Most importantly, the cause of the amavisha (slow digestion, poor food, emotional challenges, etc.) must be identified and removed if the toxicity of the blood is ever going to become normal.
When restored to normal, the lack of amavisha in the blood and body will slow or stop the damage to the nerves. Then sensitive plant can be used to nourish the nerves and help rebuild their structure.
If sensitive plant is used too early in the process, especially in crude form like this, its bitter taste can cause the liver to detox too quickly, adding more toxins to the blood and further damaging the nerves.
In some cases, using Sensitive Plant Transdermal Cream or Sensitive Plant Herbal Memory Nectar can avoid this problem.
In all cases, sensitive plant should not be used as a substitute for modern medical care. Use this herb only with the consent of your physician.
Vaidya Mishra and his Shaka Vansya Ayurveda practitioners sometimes recommend sensitive plant to be used for certain female disorders, such as muscle atrophy in the vaginal wall.
This disorder, according to Ayurveda, is sometimes caused by low levels of majja dhatu (bone marrow and nerve tissue). Majja dhatu is the raw material for shukra dhatu. Because sensitive plant nourishes nerve tissue and majja dhatu, it helps provide good raw material for healthy reproductive tissue.
The ancient text, Bhava Prakash, lists two other disorders which sensitive plant can help: raktapitta (hemorrhaging due to high pitta in the blood) and atisara (diarrhea, especially due to high pitta).
The cooling (sheetala) and astringent (kashaya) nature of sensitive plant is helpful in both of these problems.

I added 2 tsp dry sensitive plant to my DIY body oil. After applying it daily for a full week on my spine and joints, I can feel how my overall nervous system is more relaxed, my sleep is deeper and the quality of my dreams is much better: smoother, more positive feelings and outcomes in them. Quite nice.
