Do you have trouble with cellulite?  According to Ayurveda, vasa, or cellulite builds up in the muscles under the skin when the medhagni is low.  The body creates one type of dhatu (tissue) after another in a sequential manner.  Food and water first become rasa (plasma), then rakta (colored blood), then mamsa (muscle), then medha (fat), then asthi (bone), then majja (bone marrow), then sukra (reproductive tissue) and finally ojas, the finest product of metabolism (neurohormones and neurotransmitters). 

In the gap between each dhatu (tissue) is an agni (metabolic flame) that converts the previous dhatu into the next.  If the agni (flame) is weak, the next tissue may not be formed properly, and may cause a backup of raw material.  For example, if the agni between mamsa (muscle) and medha (fat) is weak, the sukshma bhag (subtle fraction) of muscle tissue will not be transformed into fat tissue as it normally is.  Instead, the extra muscle tissue will be transformed into an upadhatu (sub-tissue) of muscle called vasa, which is cellulite.

To remove excess cellulite, it is necessary to stimulate the medhagni so that it begins to properly transform the sukshma bhag of mamsa into medha dhatu as it should.  When the agni is functioning properly, excess vasa (cellulite) is not produced because all the material that was producing vasa is now being transformed into medha and then asthi, majja and so on down the chain.
